Preventative care that keeps your system running efficiently, extends its lifespan, and helps prevent costly breakdowns.
Your air conditioning system works harder than almost any other appliance in your home — especially here in East Texas, where cooling season stretches from April through October. Just like your car needs regular oil changes to keep running, your AC needs annual maintenance to perform at its best.
Skipping maintenance might not seem like a big deal in the short term, but the costs add up quickly. A neglected system loses about 5% of its efficiency each year, which means higher energy bills, more frequent breakdowns, and a shorter overall lifespan. On the other hand, a well-maintained system can last 15–20 years or more and will keep your energy costs as low as possible.
Here's what regular maintenance does for your system:
Our AC tune-up is a comprehensive inspection and cleaning that covers every critical component of your cooling system. Here's what we do during a typical maintenance visit:
We measure your refrigerant levels and check for leaks. Low refrigerant forces your compressor to work harder, drives up energy costs, and can eventually damage the compressor — the most expensive component in your system.
Dirty evaporator and condenser coils are one of the top causes of reduced efficiency. We clean both coils to ensure proper heat transfer, which keeps your system running efficiently and your home cooling evenly.
We inspect and tighten all electrical connections, test capacitors, check the contactor, and measure amp draws on the compressor and fan motors. Failing electrical components are one of the most common causes of AC breakdowns — and they're easy to catch during a tune-up.
We check your thermostat's accuracy and operation to make sure it's reading the correct temperature and communicating properly with your system. A thermostat that's off by just a couple of degrees can waste significant energy.
We replace or clean your air filter during every tune-up. A clogged filter restricts airflow, makes your system work harder, and can lead to frozen coils and compressor damage. Between tune-ups, we recommend checking your filter monthly and replacing it every 1–3 months depending on the type.
Your AC removes humidity from the air, and that moisture has to drain somewhere. If the condensate drain line gets clogged with algae or debris, water can back up and cause damage to your system or your home. We flush the drain line during every tune-up to prevent this.
After completing all inspections and cleaning, we run your system through a full performance test. We measure supply and return air temperatures, check airflow across the coil, and verify that the system is cooling as designed. If we find anything that needs attention, we'll explain it clearly and give you options.
The best time to schedule your AC maintenance is in the spring — ideally March through May — before the summer heat arrives. This way, if we find a problem, there's time to address it before you need your system most. It also avoids the rush of emergency calls in June and July when everyone's system starts breaking down at once. For homes with both AC and heating, we recommend twice-yearly maintenance: spring for your cooling system and fall for your furnace or heat pump.
We offer maintenance agreements that make it easy to stay on top of your system's care. With a NexGen maintenance plan, you get:
